HHP Attended Meritas Asia Regional Meeting 2018
HHP lawyers attended the Meritas Asia Regional Meeting 2018 for and on behalf of our Firm in Hong Kong from 15-17 November 2018.
The Asia Meeting brought Meritas members together from 10 Asian countries and territories, as well as the Chairperson of Meritas from the U.S. and member representatives from Europe and America to share industry trends, best practices and views on matters of interest to them.
During the Asia Meeting, representatives of member firms from different countries and territories gathered together and visited the office of Gallant, Meritas Hong Kong member firm.
A legal seminar on global personal data protection was held during the conference, where compliance experts from Meritas Asian, European and North American member firm shared their insights and interacted with more than 50 legal professionals from major MNCs, financial institutions and academic institutions.
For the Asia Meeting, the Honourable C Y Leung, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference of China and former Chief Executive of Hong Kong was invited to give a speech on The Belt & Road Initiative and the Opportunities it Brings to Asia for Meritas members.

Mr. Huen Wong, Honorary Chairperson of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, delivered a speech on The Belt & Road Initiative’s Intrinsic Relationship with Arbitration.
Joanna Yang, Editor of Asialaw Profiles & Benchmark Asia-Pacific,Euromoney, discussed why legal directory rankings matter to law firms with Meritas members.
A Presentation on An Overview of Private Equity Funds in Hong Kong was given by Mr. Barry Tong, National Head of M&A Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) and Joint Asia Pacific Head of TAS of Grant Thornton Hong Kong Limited, followed by a panel discussion on funds and investment interest of private equity funds in Hong Kong, where Barry, together with Mr. Vincent Chan, Director and Head of Asia of Samena Capital Hong Kong Limited, Mr. Raymond Yip, Registered Foreign Lawyer from Gallant and Mr. Philip Wong, Partner and Head of Commercial Department of Gallant exchanged their insights with Meritas members representatives.
